Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

My thoughts are that the suction pump & PCV system in general is a common issue on these cars. The price of a new suction pump isn't too different from a catch can and some 19mm pipe so why not replace it with something that won't fail in the future?

A suction pump is $66 on ecs tuning, and this one only lasted 30k Kms. Which is about a year for me. And I think I can do a catch can for under $100.

But what do you think is the best option? You know more about these engines than me Gav!

Borrow mine and see if it fixes the problem. Might be something simple that doesn't cost the earth. I am not convinced catch cans are the best fix. Anthony ended up taking the can off his Polo.

I just pulled the front cover off and suction pump is fubar. It's split open at one end.

Thanks Gav, I'll send you a txt about dropping around 1 arvo/night.

A mate might tag along with me, wants to talk to you about tuning for his Jetta 147TSI.
