Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Bought a heap of discs and pads for my Audis. Fitted Remsa pads and new discs all round to the S3 and started on the A4 Wagon.

Got the front started and then discovered I have quattro discs for the rear which won't go on a 2wd. Luckily the originals aren't so bad. So a bit of a clean up and new pads. Also rotated the wheels while I had it jacked up.

Might do some pictures of the 5 year old brakes on the S3.

It's looks like a don't care much for the S3 as I don't post anything about it from 1 year to the next. TBH it doesn't get used loads, except if the Polo is on blocks. I did run it down to Falls Creek and back at the start of March. 1600km each way. Set off Thursday, arrived Friday tea time. Lazy Saturday, 235km on the pushy Sunday. Drive home again Monday 7AM.

All the prep I did was blow up the tyres and check the oil. I did a brake fluid replacement around Christmas time, so knew the fluid was full.

Filled it with 98 and set off. It ran like a top in both direction, averaged 7.8l/100.

It's such a reliable car usually, it even rolled over 300000km on the way home.

The service light came up a week after getting back so I did the oil and it has been dropping a bit from the sump plug. I swapped the washer yesterday, same deal this morning. Another puddle. It had felt a bit odd when I did it up. So I just leapt in a pulled the sump off. Got a few spare on hand so chucked another on.

Gutted to spot after I got the "bad" one off.

The plug is shagged. Probably 8-9 years old and ECS have changed the design slightly to make the flange thicker. So I am willing to bet I am not the first to have this happen.

Anyway, it's now got a wrinkle black sump and a new sump plug fitted.

I also polished the headlights again, they yellow up really quick with it living outside, only take a couple of minutes though so no big deal. Autosol, and some Meguiars.
