Audi B4/A4

I'm helping a friend with the purchase of a second hand euro, 20-30k. Must be auto, a 4door and I haven't really got a lot of nice things to say about c200 mercs (which he likes). So does anyone know what to look out for? I'm guessing it'll be a 2.0 petrol or 1.8 turbo petrol with the CVT transmission. Is that transmission a weak point? Any other concerns or experiances?

1stly what do you mean by B4 ?

A4s started with B5 then B6 and currently B7

CVTs can be an issue I'd do some researching on http://www.ozaudi.com/ozaudiforum/index.php or call the local Audi mechanic in your area

1stly what do you mean by B4 ?

The last of the Audi 80's are known as b4's, I think 92 on, 1986 to 1991 are B3's,
1979 to early 1986 are B2's
My car in the pic is a B2 1985 Audi 80,
