  • No RS3 for Australia :(

    Taken from here:

Unfortunately for hot Audi fans, the RS3 definitely won’t be coming to Australia either. Audi Australia says it has been released too late in the donor A3’s product cycle and would sell in insufficient volumes for it to justify the investment in ADR approval fees.

“The RS3 won’t be coming to Australia in its current generation,” Audi spokesman Sean Poppitt told GoAuto.

“There is a specific ADR regulation that applies only in Japan and Australia that at present the RS3 does not meet. With the current A3 being relatively late into its model cycle, it does not make any sense to re-engineer the car for a small-volume market such as Australia.”
    A shame really...
    Nothing to see here...

Well at least you can grey import it now.

Does anyone know what this ADR regulation is? Doesn't surprise me though... Whenever we miss out on something cool, the Australian Government is to blame.

Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme (SEVS)

It's in here somewhere. I can't remember if it is the exact model they won't allow it, or just a similar model.

I remember reading the RS3 has carbonfibre guards.....

Would this have something to do with it?

Get the latest Fifth Gear episode from finalgeardotcom to see Vicky reviewing the uber Golf R (aka RS3). Hugely competent, powerful, DSG box and all, even looking like 40k Euros/Pounds Audi is asking, but...

The drivetrain/emmissions is TTRS (sold here) and the body is A3 which is sold here. Approval of what exactly..?

Yeah, I too would like to know what needs to be re-engineered for the Australian market. But then, there are often differences between cars that we all think are "the same" as another one...

Apparently the UK price is £40,000. I wonder if grey imports will turn up here after two it three years.

I test drove a TTRS on the weekend.. love the sound and feel but same power with the GIAC Extreme Tune luckily enough lol. TT Platform is great, but an ass to get in and out from!

Well, that's the thing, it looks like RS3 is nothing more than an R on steroids wearing a fancier badge. Australia won't be missing that much then Try find that Fifth Gear review, it sums it up very well.
