Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

check out GAP for specific parts. you'll probably find alot of parts are similar to later model audi's with 5 cyl's & mk 1 golf.

I can't comment too much on the 5cyl's really, never had one.

I'd prefer it over my audi, just cause it's cooler!

2.3L 5cyl is in like 1/2 the 80's and 90's around its a very popular engine, the 20v 125kw one is the one you want though

Yea man just get the cooling system checked for leaks with the pressure tester. A lot of the plastic water flanges (and metal ones) will be cracked and corroded if they havent been recently replaced.
Might wanna check the water pump history out too.
Does that engine have the fixed exhaust manifold??? If it does, and its cracked, that'd be a bitch to fix.

I suppose all the wheel bearings, CV's and stuff would be all standard '80's VW/Audi parts so shouldnt be too pricey or hard to get.

There was an old Audi 100 for sale here last week for $100. Gotta find that number.....

In my opinion the standard wheels don't do the car any justice a nice set of new rims will make it stand out and look a lot better (hope thats better ) and just add parts availability will be about the same as getting parts for your mk3 few places you can go spring wood mechanical or Imparts.
