2010 Jetta 103TDI DSG

Hi,

I am new to this forum and would like some advice on buying 2010 VW Jetta 103tdi DSG. It is 170,000km but has full service history.

I know from engine point of view, VW 2.0l diesel engines are quite good in reliability and economy. I am not very much confident about the 6 speed DSG.

Do you think it is worth buying this car in $10K? Obviously it is out of warranty and bit high on kms. Read so many reviews but still confused as many people are complaining about DSG. And they say it is a crap and very expensive to maintain and cost around $5k to get it fixed.

Also can you please tell me what is the interval of timing belt and gearbox service for this model? What things should I check before buying this car if this car is worth buying?

I can't won't comment on the price - value is in the eye of the person with the cash in their hand. $10k for a car that was $30k+ 4 yrs earlier - and they reckon Skodas depreciate badly?

You'd be crazy not to get a pre-purchase inspection done at one of the Canberra VW Centre outlets or the other VW specialist in the ACT (that used to work at CVWC).

Yes brad it is a good idea to get it inspected first. They have given me the details of VW dealer from where they bought vehicle and was maintained by and they are happy for me to call dealer and get its records checked about the history of the car.

If they are keen they'll allow a full inspection at an Independant VW Specialist. Service History at the dealer is helpful but as they say "Past performance isn't a guarantee of future returns".

Car is with leasing company, so I am not sure whether they will allow inspection of the car or not. So it is an ex-lease car.

I know big depreciation was the major factor I was trying to stay away from buying new one. But at the same time I do not want to buy some lemon and then after buying spend a big chunk of money to get it running for another couple of years.
