Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Variant? Chassis number? B1? B2? Bananas?

I was chatting to a guy at a friends bbq the other day about vw’s and he asked what variant my jetta was and I had no idea, he guessed it to be B1. Ive only really ever heard of nissan’s S chassis being used regularly so I did a bit of googling but couldn’t really find anything on it other than B1 being an old audi designation which is used on the passats. Golfs and jettas seem to have an A designation being a smaller wheelbase.

I guess it would be handy info for getting parts etc in the future, can anyone elaborate?

I guess this response answers my question, no one refers to vw’s by chassis number lol
I did a bit more reading tho and it seems ol mate might have meant 1B which seems to be 2011,2012. But theres also a 1KM which looks like it could be 2009,2010,2013 but I haven’t come across anything definitive.

162 is probably what you're looking for with respect to the mk6 Jetta. 1KM is the mk5 Jetta. I think.

i had a look at the duct tape looking sticker with the paint code etc on the passenger door sill and it had 162, no sign of 1b or 1km
