Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

not sure how many of you out there have had your jetta dynoed but i thought id save you some grief if youre thinking about it.

i popped along to the downshift dyno day on the weekend, was very keen to get a read out but alas i was foiled by the ol traction control, completely didnt even cross my mind, damn modern technology!
after a bit of research and a chat to a vw mechanic we came to a conclusion - im not sure which models have what but basically if you dont have an ESP button at the bottom of your center console then you cant turn it off. cant pull the fuse either! one suggestion was to take a wheel off and unplug an abs sensor, but that was no guarantee.

the only real way to go about it is to deactivate it with a vagcom, had an offer for one but didnt have the time to stick around to try it ): so again, i wait.

props to the friendly euro lads that were only too happy to help out tho! more than i can say for pretty much any one else i talked to that day, even for the most simplest things! lol :S

You could hit up Guy H and get a hub reading.
Otherwise i haven't heard of any issues to do with TCS and wheel dyno's before.

6 Speed manual should be OK. Anyway, there is a 5 second way of disabling the ABS / ESP IF it causes you grief.

If the operator has not run one before he may struggle, to work out how each car wants to behave. A dyno day is not a good environment for spending the right amount of time to get correct readings.

dont know what they were doing but they were def. struggling with it, i could see the wheels stutter a bit and he stalled it a few times.
they said they had problems with a beemer the day before. i think the only other euro that ran on the day was an audi, not really sure how much experience theyd have with euros. they did seem to be rushing through the cars tho

would feathering the accelerator and gradually applying it have helped?

i wasnt really expecting anything too accurate or to do any tuning, more just out of curiosity (and a tradition when i get a new car and it was cheap lol )

it did strike me as rather unusual that i cant turn it off, sometimes you just need a whole lotta floorin! lol

keen to know what the 5sec fix is, if that knowledge can be made public?
how much do you guys charge for a quick hub dynoing?

Pulling the correct 5 cent fuse takes 5 seconds. You can also pull the main plug off the ABS unit, but that sometimes takes a little longer (Maybe 20 seconds)
