Jetta 147 vs GLI Autobahn what are the differences

From what I can tell the Jetta 147 in Oz is almost the same as the Jetta GLI Autobahn in the US. It looks like it has the same engine, suspension etc. While the options are a bit different for example we get leather seats versus vinyl and a few other items the car's technically seem exactly the same. They are also both built in Mexico. My questions are:

- Are these cars the same, if not what are the differences (engine, suspension etc.)
- Why are the quoted 0-100 times so different (AU quotes 7.2 and I have seen 7.5 but US quotes 6.8 )
- Finally why is the 2.0 TSI engine not sold in the UK but is available in the US and AU?

Appreciate any light you can shed on this subject.

The two cars are pretty much the same in that they are the Jetta with the 2.0TSI engine. VW US thinks that their model would be better with a bodykit and 18-inch wheels and should have the GLI name (which I understand has been around in the US a while). The 2.0TSI isn't available in the UK because VW UK obviously thinks that there would be little to no market for it, let alone a market for the Jetta, let alone a market for small sedans. I'd love to see the 2.0TSI become the GLI here - people actually might notice it for a change.

The difference in 0-100 may just be on how they've measured both cars.

AFAIK, the GLI is all marketing hype. Americans have got this whole 'MTV culture' going on. Bigger rims, lowered cars, louder speakers, etc. Have you been to the US? Observe cars in the big cities, then go to Sydney/Melbourne and observe the cars here. We're not a bling bling country.

No idea what model it was just saw it as we were leaving

Presumed as it was a rental wouldnt be a flash one but then we had a Chrysler 300 Brand new, leather cooled/heated seats Sirius radio, adaptive cruise, all the fruit except satnav and it was a Premium rental and all of $27,000 drive away over there.

All for $24 a day LOL

The US measure 0-60 times. 60 miles/hr is a slower speed than 100km/hr which is 62.5 miles/hr.

Looking at spec the GLI has H rated tyres.. so I assume its limited to 210km/h.
No such thing as real leather either it seem... V-Tex - vinyl

the 147TSI Highline we get seems better appointed.

The honeycomb grills on a Jetta also look horrible.

Thanks everyone, it also seems as if there are some differences but it looks like 2013 model such as a fender audio system and launch control. I agree that fake leather is not as good as real leather and appreciate that in my Jetta. They also have an option of manual I see which is interesting for the US and probably something many would consider. I myself went for the DSG after owning a manual which I love and find a joy to drive.
