Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • $1720 for genuine alloys...

I have never had to buy wheels for a car before but thought I would option 16" Sima alloys on a 2012 Jetta.

Is $1720 a joke? I have been trying to google alternative places to source these but with no luck in Australia.

I really like the car but why should I have to pay almost 2 grand for something that is standard on every other car I have looked at? Not impressed

Optioning alloy rims from the dealer is generally a massive waste of money unless you can negotiate it into the deal. Buy the car with standard wheels and just keep an eye on ebay. People tend to offload OEM rims very cheaply when they upgrade to bigger wheels.

Also if youre looking to do it to improve the aesthetics id be looking at 17" wheels. 16s tend to look a bit boring.

Id imagine most companys charge similar or include it as part of a deal as Tim said.
Just wait for some to pop up on ebay or forums etc, bargains can be had

Yes I got genuine 17's off ebay, the guy lived close by and I paid $350 for something VW wanted $1680 for!

Sure they are used but near perfect, look out on ebay and gumtree.
