Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2 Months into owning my Jetta.. :(

Some idiot comes along (of course, with a 4wd and the essential bull bar) that isn't paying attention and destroys it.

made the insurance claim and took it to the assessor who didn't tell me anything about what was required to fix it or the price range, however told me that it would be a "big job". A friend confirmed this and told me that the part that was hit is the only part of the car that is welded on and that it would need to be cut off and a new piece re-welded. Is there any truth to this?

    I feel your pain.

My Jetta was damaged in a carpark in a hit and run after only 4 months. Similar amount of damage but I was somewhat lucky that only the bumper was hit.

That's probably a big job as the guy who fixed my bumper said if it was any part of the body it would've been a big job.

Let us know how you go. I'm sure you'll forget about it after it's been repaired. I know I did!

I saw an accident involving a dark Jetta like yours and a 4WD type vehicle Wednesday morning on King St (Princess Hwy) just approaching the intersection with the Citylink tunnel. I would just about assume it was you except I think he hit the other side of the car (just) and I didn't notice much, if any, damage from where I was.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

Wouldn't have been me Ryan, mine happened at Calder Park Drive in Sydenham (it was the other guys fault).
Although I can't really speak as I'm still on P's but from what I've seen (in my personal experience), 4WD drivers are the most aggressive and dangerous drivers, in my experience

Yeah I was pretty pissed off when it happened, the guy that hit me had the nerve to suggest we both "go our separate ways" and not through insurance.. while his 93 Hilux had a bit off paint off the bull bar and my car is totaled -.-
