Puzzled by high idling

Hi all,

I have observed something strange lately, my Jetta has been idling at higher rpm say about 1050 or so the usual is normally at 780 ish this doesn't happen all the time and when it does its usually on a sweltering hot day.

I noticed if I were to tap on the pedal rev it higher say 1500 and then let go it would return to normal idling range ie 780 ish it's as though something is stuck and release by revving the car at higher rpm (btw this when the car is at position P ).

Any thoughts on this is much appreciated, thanks guys

Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention that the air cond was turned off as I was parked at my parking bay. It's a strange one because it happens Intermittently.
