Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW New MK7 Golf R Dilema!

    Hi All
New to the forum this is far from the first post I wanted tomake but I have an issue and would like some wisdom.
I picked up my brand new golf R a couple of weeks ago, tookit to get the windows tinted a week later.
Noticed a few days later that the window sill rubber on the outsideof driver’s door had been cut while they were tinting, they have agreed toreplace the rubber with a new one when it comes in from VW.
My dilemma is will the cure be worse than the problem.
What would be involved in removing this rubber from the topof the door as it does go behind the rear view mirror a bit?
I don’t want to risk themdamaging or breaking something else like the paint when they are replacing the rubber(window belt strip)
It is part #8 on the below image

    any help much appreciated

Get VW to fit it and give them the bill for the part and labour to install.

Yes that is a good idea, but my concern is more what would be involved in replacing it.

eg, if they just pull it off and push a new one back on, im fine with it being replaced.

but if they need to strip down the door to get to the back of it im not sure i would want the door pulled apart at this point in time.

want to know if anyone has taken one off and knows how it is done.

it may be just new car owner sindrome but I dont want to have my few week old car pulled apart.

Talk to a VW tech at your nearest dealer, I'm sure they will tell you how it is done and quote you a price.

Guys, just wanted to give an updated for those that could be interested,
the window tinter ended up providing a new rubber (belt moulding) and Sent me to a smash repairer who fitted it in about 15min,
I didn't watch but I'm Pretty sure it just pulled off and nothing else need to be pulled of the car to fit it.
              Relief good as new again.
