Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    G'day All

This is my first forum membership. I drive a 2008 Mark V GTi which I bought new September 2009. It is my first VW and I have been very happy with it. It has been a very reliable car and I still get a smile when I drive it. I was very close to selling it and upgrading to something with a bit more grunt. I was considering WRX STi, AUDI S3 sedan, VW Golf MK7 R, Mercedes Benz A45 AMG. But I then started considering some mods on my low km (90000km) GTi. It still drives pretty much like new. I am somewhat fastidious in my care of cars. (and most other things)

So anyway, I started reading forums and got onto VWWatercooled and came across h100vw. Gavin was being mentioned with regard to performance tuning and I liked the sound of custom tune as opposed to "off the shelf. I got in touch with Gavin and have just received a Underground Performance Stage 1 ECU and DSG tune. This was a bit of a leap of faith for me as I have always thought a power upgrade was a great way to discover the weakest part in a drivetrain. It would be the one which broke first under all the extra strain. Anyway, here I am loving the feel of my revitalised GTi. Gavin discovered today on my log test-drive that turbo boost was down 50%. It turns out my DV was cactus. I only had the car serviced two weeks ago so this was probably missed. He had seen a low boost code on initial ECU read-out and bought a replacement DV just in case my car needed one. When he confirmed it he had it replaced in 20min and the difference is amazing. Thanks Gavin.
So, my modification journey has started. I hope to learn much more from the learned members of this forum. I look forward to being enlightened.
