Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Knocking sound under bonnet 2009 103TDI

    Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could please help me out with this.

I recently purchased a 2009 103TDI Comfortline VW Golf. I've noticed on occasion after I turn the ignition off, there is a knocking sound under the bonnet for a few seconds. The car itself runs fine and I've looked online and haven't managed to find any information about it. It doesn't happen every time I drive, at least not as far as I can tell.

The car does need a new pressure sensor which I am in the process of getting, and I have been told this doesn't affect the driving of the car.

Could the knocking sound be caused by the pressure sensor or is it something else? Should I get it looked at or is it normal?

Any help with this would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks!

Could potenitally be the dual mass flywheel.

It'll be a deep, constant knock at idle, but go away when rev'd.

No not the dual mass fly wheel if it makes the sound for a few seconds after it's turned off, could you be more specific, has the engine stopped turning, or is it as it winds down to a stop, if it is as the engine slows to a stop then maybe yes flywheel separating, if after stopping it is something electrical that may be worn and knocking.

      Cheers, Scott.
