The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • NSW 118 tsi timing chain rattle

    Hi fellow vw enthusiast,
My daughter is the proud owner of a mk6 118 tsi golf that has just been diagnosed with a stretched timing chain at 70 thousand kms , i know there are some recent discussions regarding this problem and it appears to be bit confusing so any help or advise from you guys is greatly appreciated.
The situation so far is car 09 model 70k with vw rockdale service history recently returned to them for diagnosis of a loud engine rattle on start up , The car starts and drives fine but to be safe i had the vehicle towed from penrith to rockdale vw where it has been getting serviced, upon arrival i showed two technicians phone video recordings of the noise on start up which i had taken because it wasn't happening all the time, they both stated that the loud rattle on start up was timing chain related, one tech stated this was a recognised problem and i had good case for a goodwill repair, however three days latter they stated that the issue was a low engine oil level, i said this was not possible due to fact that i check oil level weekly and when my daughter said her car was making a noise the first thing i did was check the engine oil level, it was found to be slightly over full and it was checked multiple times so i know this was incorrect. So they stated the oil level was topped up and rattle noise could not be replicated upon start up, they washed the car charged me nothing for the diagnosis assured me nothing was wrong and off i went unhappy because i knew the noise was not oil level related. three days later whilst on holidays my daughter rings me and says dad my car is making that same noise again,i called the service adviser and told her of the issue and that i had showed them video of the noise, she stated ( that could be any ones car ) and to bring the car in when i could. This time i waited three weeks to get the car looked at by vw penrith who today diagnosed a stretched timing chain with only 70 thousand k on the clock, they quoted over 4,000 dollars to supply and fit a new timing chain kit which is highway robbery, and given the condition of the car and the k"s and the fact a timing chain is supposed to last much much longer if not the life of the car, So my daughter is now sitting here with her chin on the ground so any advice on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards Hinchy
