Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW First VW ever-2008 Turbo Diesel Jetta

    Hi everybody,

First time poster (obviously). Yesterday, I purchased my first ever VW. I have been driving Euro for about 2 years now, and my last car was a 98 BMW E46, which I loved. However, last month I was involved in a crash and wrote it off, so I was looking for something new.

Even though I loved my BMW,I wanted to get something newer within my budget, and the newer BMWs are well out of it. A mate of mine suggested looking at VW, as he swears by them up and down. After a bit of research, I had narrowed my options down to a Bora or a Jetta. What I really wanted was a turbo diesel, as I have never owned a diesel before and have heard fantastic things. Alas, most of the Jettas around my area were out of my price range, so it was looking increasingly like a V5 Bora was going to be the answer. However, the ones that I test drove were unfortunately not very well looked after, and so I was becoming increasingly more and more frustrated, wondering if I would even find a good VW at all.

Then, a couple nights ago, I was trolling the internet as I had been for about 2 weeks, and my dream car popped up. A 2008 Turbo Diesel Jetta at a local dealership, under 150,000km, for exactly what I was hoping to spend. The next day I went and inspected it, and could not believe how nice the drive was. So smooth, and the diesel engine sounded amazing. It was way better than I expected. Logbooks were all complete, and the car looked mechanically solid. The exterior had a few scratches, and the interior was a bit dirty, but nothing that a solid detail can't fix.

So, needless to say, I purchased the vehicle, and am now a proud VW owner. Below are some pictures of it. Look forward to being a member of this group!
