Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo GTI - Definitely needs tuning.

    G'day guys.

Just picked up a cheapo '08 9N3 GTI. My first VW coming from a fairly modified BMW 330ci.

Now. Because I thought it had the same 20v Turbo from the Mk4 Golf, I thought it'd go like a stabbed rat. How very wrong I was... I've been told it needs a tune, but we'll get to that later.

Just picked up some coilovers and a set of OZ Racing Superlight 17s from Italy. Hoping to make it into a bit more of a hot hatch or a slightly spastic track weapon; apparently we can get close to 220hp with a simple ECU reflash, but I'm sceptical of that... Forums are always a good place to start, anyway!

I look forward to chatting to you all about a bit of VAG.

    Cheers, Ash.

Hey Ash, I have tuned a large number of Polo's in recent times.

220 is pretty ambitious, no chance without doing some hardware changes. You'll need to go to town on the downpipe, intercooler and intake.

A stage 1 tune will net you 200-205 ish hp at the crank.

The Golf GTI has a very similar engine but with a K03 turbo not a K03s and also it doesn't have VVT.

If you are keen on a tune up I have an ECU with Stage 1 loaded to it. Which I can send you as a trial. If you like it, I can bench flash your ECU with the exact same software.

If you want more than that, then I can work that out with you too if you don't mind doing a bit of logging.

    Gavin

Ripper! Cheers Gavin. I've just sent you an email to info@optimumcode.com.au - definitely keen to work out a tune for the old Polo.
