Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SA 2015 Polo 81TSI/Sunset Red/Sports pack

    Hi guys,

My name is Will, and bought my first car a few months ago: 2015 January build Polo 81TSI: Sunset Red Metallic with the Sports Package. Bought from Solitaire with 2,000km on the clock.

I work part time and am a full time student. I chose the VW for several reasons: loved the masculine and sporty look of the Sports pack Polo, am finding it very fun to drive as it's light and punchy, and of course enjoying the build quality. I tested Holdens, Fords and Mazdas and the Polo really was a class above in terms of pretty much everything: more engaging drive, quality feel cabin and assembly, and number of "expensive car" features like sports leather steering wheel, really high quality graphic displays, DSG gearbox. Overall to me it represents extremely good value for everything I need it for. I was tempted to settle for something cheaper a while back but decided to keep saving for the Polo and so far have not regretted this.

Any issues so far? Well, there's a "groaning" noise that has recently been coming from the engine bay once the car is warmed up. Solitaire tell me it's a normal noise. I still think not, but was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience. Seems to go away once I turn the air conditioner on, or perhaps it just is covered up by the aircon noise.

Either way, looking forward to going through the forums. I found them helpful during my buying process in terms of buyer feedback on the car, what to look for and how much to pay.

More than happy to answer questions on the car, as best I can.

    Thanks

    Will

Welcome to the forum Will and congratulations on your new car. Did you check another new Polo at dealer for the noise?

      Thanks for the welcome.

The dealer claimed that they had done just that and detected no abnormalities. I'm surprised that I didn't notice such a noise earlier when I drove other 81TSIs but again it can only be heard when the radio is off/nobody is talking. So again, it could be a "normal" engine noise, but I still am suspicious of it.
