Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New Skoda owner from Perth

    Hi all,

Just picked up new car a few days ago..hope you're all friendly to Skoda owners here!

Tis my first experience with a car from VAG!

Already keen to get it flash tuned but I'm too scared to void warranty...

Yes we like Skodas too - especially those that carry an RS badge

Id be waiting until after the first service/getting the car checked over and any issues sorted before getting the car tuned.

      Gday!

      Here's me!

Is yours TDi? I recall seeing yours at the yard I reckon!

I'm looking at the BMS JB1 tuning box, it's removable so if you need warranty service you can remove it.

I just picked up a black grille surround from spare parts today, looking forward to installing this weekend!

        Nah mines a manual TSI.

Hmm I think even with a tuning box different boost pressures ect will be saved so if you blow your engine and they did investigate it could deny your claim.

Ah ok, awesome! Mine is TSI DSG.

Even if the Ecu sees more boost, it's unlikely they can flat out accuse you of increasing your own boost. Perhaps an alternative for you is the ABT tuning box. They offer 2 year 100k KM warranty on your drivetrain. The box is $3390 plus fitting. I've done a fair amount of homework and the alternatives to an actual flash are sparse. I'm very cautious about my warranty too, as I upgraded to 5 years, so for me the BMS box seems like a great amount of power for the $, but the ABT is not much more power but does have the warranty component. I'm just not sure that with the power levels being reached with the BMS that warranty is actually much of a concern. The factory Ecu is still doing all the hard work and reducing timing based on knock levels, so I trust the VW Ecu will protect the engine. At the end of the day it's just a boost controller, whereas a flash tune really does start to fiddle with a lot of VW smarts and safety measures.

Interesting. I've done a bit of research but haven't heard of the BMS Jb1 box. Who does it in Perth and what price are we looking at?

Also trying to find someone in Perth with VCDS

BMS JB Stage 1 Released - GOLFMK7 - VW GTI MKVII Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVII Forum

              A great thread here.

It's about $400USD plus shipping. Fitting takes about an hour at the most. I'm trying to convince a mate of mine who tunes the Commodore crowd to take on some of this VW stuff as he has a dyno as well. I will fit my own easy enough

Are you in Perth? Might be worth catching up with ya. I know nothing about car mechanics.. Too complicated for me. Motorbike engines are much easier to understand!

Ps you said you ordered a black grill surround. Mine seems to have come standard with that?

Yes you have the 19 inch Black Pack, so you got black roof racks, mirror caps, grille and 19 inch wheels a $500 option. My grille was $120 on its own
