To answer your question, would be cheaper to buy manual due to initial purchase cost, maintenance and replacement. My R32 is DSG and the only issue that I have had with it was the mechatronics unit fail. Those DSG downshifts are ever so enjoying especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust.
Do you do a lot of city or highway driving? Being able to switch from 'D' to 'S' or across into 'M' mode and change up and down with the steering wheel paddles was the selling point for me. Test drive both and make your decision from there.
