  • NSW New to VW in Sydney. MY16 Highline

    Hiya,

I've ordered myself a 110TSI Highline DSG which is supposed to arrive in Australia on 1 Sep and be ready for delivery around mid Sep.

Currently driving a loan car (albeit brand new) which I think is a 90TSI base model (plastic wheel covers). I'm a bit disappointed to say that I can feel some hesitation in the DSG box from a standing start in commuter traffic. I read there were some early issues with the DSG boxes but I had read that that was a 'past' issue.

I've not really been a big driver of automatics before. I drove a girlfriend's new i30 Hyundai last night and I have to admit I thought that auto gear box and throttle response seemed perfectly fine and predicatble in comparison.

I'm hoping the hesitation I'm feeling from the auto is something to do with the car being new (<100km on the clock) and learning a driver profile or something along those lines.

      Hi Kelly, welcome to VWW!

The reliability and driveability issues have mostly been sorted with the 7-speed DSG in the Mk7 Golf. New cars and demonstrators can be a bit rough if they've not adapted well, but most people don't report problems. There will occasionally be some minor hesitation you'll observe, but that's inevitable in double-clutch gearboxes at present, and I'm sure you'll acclimatise to it and subconsciously drive around any quirks (e.g. by holding lighter brake pressure when in stop/start traffic, releasing the brake slightly earlier than you otherwise would and feeding on the power once the car starts to crawl).

Thanks Adam, one does adapt of course. I'm not sure if it's me adapting or the car settling in but there have been fewer instances of the hesitation although it would be fair to say it has happened on every drive thus far.

Give it a few more kays to smooth out and work out the clutch adaptions (which can take 100km or more unless you're putting the gearbox/clutches through very specific conditions). Given it's either a demo or a loaner, it's probably not been treated with the greatest of care or consistency prior to you - even if it's only done a handful of km.

Do you mind share spec of the car and how much you have paid for it?

            thanks in advance
