Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VW Newbie looking to buy GTI Mk6 Manual

    Hi Guys

Comimg from Jap sports cars i am very skeptical about buying golf gti mk 6

i have my eye on MY11 3 door with 45000km, it looks like brand new car

however i read that people have water pump failure, chain tension failure and carbon build up.

Can some one prepare me to what i should expect in terms of maintenace and what should i look formwhen buying one.

    Thanks a lot

Looks like you've done your research on the common issues with these cars.

Choosing a 3 door manual is going to limit you in terms of cars that are available as there are fewer of this combination around. So if you find one you like at a good price I'd move on it.

Same with all second-hand cars get it checked out and look into the service history. These will be 12 months/15,000km but likely if you're looking at a lower km car it'll be 12 months. Major service is at 4years/60,000km.

If it's being sold through a dealer I try and find out the previous owner and talk to them about any issues with the car.

    Good luck!
