Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2009 passat Starting problems

I'm having a starting problem with my VW 2009 Passat.
I push to start, it turns over then stalls after 1-2 seconds this can happen 5-6 times before it stays running
I get the following message flash up on my dash screen
    "Steering column lock defective" and
    "engine fault workshop"
    Any ideas?

    Self explainatory really.

The Electronic Streeing Coloumn Lock module is failing.

Get it fixed ASAP before you get stuck somewhere.

Thanks, it's been doing it for a while now but this is the fist time it's told me the steering lock is faulty

It's a fair drama to sort out if you leave until it's left you stranded. Jmac was telling me about one he had in recently.

If you get it replaced I would be keen to see the broken part to see if they are repairable.
