Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Hello

Hello to all VW Watercooled owners,

My name is Ron and I have just purchased a new Škoda Yeti after 4 decades of driving mostly Asian made vehicles. It's a bit of leap for me especially given the recent bad press the VW Group have suffered in Australia especially with alleged DSG 'issues'.

After doing a lot of research, I think VW should be congratulated for using very good design, technology and cleverness (especially the simply clever folks at Škoda, I'm bound to say) in the interests of their customers (and themselves of course). They have designed a range of small capacity, powerful but fuel efficient powerplants and have leveraged common components across all their brands. Their range of DSG gearboxes are key in achieving the dual goals of fuel efficiency and performance by eliminating the torque converter and ensuring the vehicle is in the most economical gear consistent with the driver's needs.

Anyhow, I expect I will mostly use the forum for information and will contribute if I have something worthwhile to offer. This forum is a great source of information.

    Regards,

    Ron
