Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thank you. I am a female fabia rs driver . Unfortunately my car has a number of problems including oil usage. I wonder if anyone can assist with advice on the following two issues. The car sticks in 3rd gear when changing up to 4th gear in D. This used to only happen on hills - it was like the car was engine braking it has now started to happen even on the flat. Nothing seems to shift it in the form of either braking or accelerating until it decides to shift. The second issue is one where the car develops a shuddering ,slows down and then releases a large cloud of black smoke and then recovers. I am sure you know that it easier to ask you guys first before attempting to get an answer from the dealer.
