Nwebie with MK7 golf GTi DSG Jap Import !!!

hi guys, just purchased a 2014 MK7 Golf Gti DSG which is a jap import (i live UK) couple of issues i'm trying to sort out with it being a jap import (radio frequency/nav not working) also got no daytime running lights for some reason ??

Firstly welcome to the forum.

I'd suggest posting up your questions in the Audio/Electronics forum area.

I'm not sure how much help a lot of people on here are going to be as we don't see Jap imports here.

Firstly a couple of things come to mind. Are you sure you have Nav? Some people just stick on the antenna. Likely if you have a Jap import it won't have maps for UK. Again post this up in the audio/electronics area as more people will see it there.

For DRL I'd check fuses and coding. Different countries have different laws and it may be these have been coded out. Just a guess but worth checking.

After having had a few Jap imports I can help with the radio.

Japanese radios work in a different frequency band and have different separation between stations as here'
Japanese VHF FM frequency band

The VHF FM band that issued within Japanese extends from 76 to 90 MHz because the 90 to 108 MHz band is used for analogue VHF television - three channels each 6 MHz wide.

The Japanese VHF FM band is only 14 MHz wide and this limits the number of stations that can be accommodated, and as a result, many stations use AM.

In the UK, the VHF FM broadcast band is split between the various forms of broadcasting supplied by the national broadcaster, the BBC, which is funded by a licence fee, and independent radio which is funded on a commercial basis, chiefly by advertising.

It can be seen that specific BBC national radio stations are allocated bands within the overall band-plan. The requirement for this amount of spectrum enables the whole country to be covered without undue levels of interference because stations are not sufficiently spaced in distance.

Dont know about in the UK but in NZ we could buy a range extender which converted the Jap frequencies to the NZ ones It just plugs in the aerial lead

Hi,
Thanks for the info, yes i can buy a 'band expander' over here which just plugs into the antenna and allows the radio to get different FM range but it will not change it on the screen, which is what i want to try and do, looking like i'am going to need a new infotainment unit in the glovebox !!

hi, thanks for the reply, will ask in the audio section as well, yes the car definatly has nav, it shows me gps compass on the radio and in clocks (the car is quite high spec, think its because its jap import) no fuses gone so think its down to a coding issue but the long coding helper doesn't give me any instructions (or if they do they are all in german) so struggling a bit !!

Hi guys, sorry to mither you again !! i have been and purchased a second hand infotainment unit part number 5G0035020D from a VW breakers yard, i have plugged it into my car (in glovebox) and the unit works other than it says component protection on the screen and i have no volume !! the sat-nav maps load and i can work everything through the screen as before but no volume and component protection on screen !! any help advise ?? i am going to post this on the forum as well to see..
