Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC B6 or B7 Passat Wagon - which one?

    Hi
I have been looking for hours trying to find a clear answer whether my 125TDI Highline 6 speen auto is a B6 or B7. The build date on the plate is March 2011. From what I can see this MAY have been the last B6 to be released in Australia but I can't find a definitive answer?

The reason I want to know is to buy a rear sill protector from overseas. The one I have found says it will fit a B7 but I'm not sure whether the B6 bumper is a different dimension? I think there were quite a few changes between the versions.

    Any assistance greatly appreciated!

    Cheers Dougstar

They are both the same in that area I took paper templates of a B6 and it matched up on my B7 The taildoors are identical The lower bumper is different but not the sill under the taildoor.

Those protectors arent all that good as they only sit on the top of the bumper and you can still scratch the face of it.

I used 3M clear plastic and took it right down the the chrome strip. Did both my cars for $150 All the door sills and both boots Still have about 2.4M x300mm wide left. Mine is a March 2011 Bought June 2011 and is a B7.

The updated one with free RNS510 came out 2 weeks later Damn.

Easy to tell the B6 had the circular light in the tail like a Skyline and had the teardrop shape The B7 has flat bottoms on the tails and the chrome trim is in a different place along the sides.

It should have what it is on the sticker on the inside of your manual or service book along with the extras codes.

The grilles in the B6 had the chrome surround down to the bottom of the bumper The B7 hasnt

      Thanks HillyBilly
The 3M ones are $65 from VW and the "premium" one is only plastic and is $200 - ouch
I used the 3M film on another car and the dogs claws went straight through it, we have a new puppy. The VW dealer said mine is a B7 which is consistent with Volkswagen Passat B7 | Top Car Guide which lists CFGB as the engine type the same as the vehicle data sticker, the B6 seems to have a different engine code. Anyhow as the sill is exactly the same as you say (appreciate that) I can order a really solid stainless steel one from a place in Germany. Curiously I haven't been able to work out what HLBMT means on the sticker (see photo) any ideas, this may be the key?
PS Love our VW.BTW - but wish I had waited 6 months and got an AllTrack.
      Cheers

Here it is type it in here Doesnt work for that one but options do

        VW Group Option Codes Decoder

I think the HLBMT may be the High line and maybe the factory code.. Emden

Rest is similar to mine except I have Nav and car is brown You have the large roof option.

Its a B7 alright but its chassis number is 4090 before mine.
