Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rain Sensor just stopped working

    Hi all

First post so forgive me if I should be asking this question elsewhere.
I have Passat Estate 2009 TDI. Just had it serviced 2 weeks ago at 70k by VW. Battery was replaced and all other normal services performed.
I was driving yesterday in the rain and realized that the rain sensor is now not working. This is the first rain I've driven in since the service so I'm wondering if the battery replacement has caused this issue???
I checked the fuse and it's fine. Nothing on windscreen and the sensor looks fine from what I can see.

    Can anyone help with suggestions??

    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

Yep. I've had the car for three years and have never had a problem with the rain sensors. It's only just happened since being in for a service and battery replacement. Obviously I will take it back to VW Service but thought I would check to see if there is anything that I'm missing.
      Cheers

Sorted. It was the silicon pad.

Was it sorted "under warranty". Or did they charge for the parts / labour?

I took the rear view mirror off and pulled out the sensor. It had lost some of its stickiness and wasn't adhering to the windscreen properly. I gave it a wipe with some vinegar and let it dry (this gave its tackiness back). I then reapplied it to the windscreen and it's now working again.

I will have to replace the silicon pad at some stage but glad this little fix helped. It was very easy to fix in the end.

I didn't want to have VW fix it if I could do it myself as I doubt it would be under warranty and I reckon they would charge me for parts and labour when I could just do it myself.

Cheers mate. I will still have to replace it at some stage as I I'm sure it will stop working again so when I do i will take pics and post them. I struggled to find any photos to help.
