Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Mk4 Golf rear tyres wearing any specialists in the Newcastle area for wheel alignment

Hi guys good to be a part of the community, I'd like to hear from anybody that has had and fixed a rear tyre wear problem in their Mk4 Golf. My car had stock wheels and suspension and was ok, upgraded to 17inch wheels still all good had the car lowered all round with H & R cup shocks and springs new rubbers and thrust bearings and then new tyres and a wheel alignment. After about 20,000ks now my rear tyres are wearing fast but evenly, fronts are at 80% and rears would be at 30% tread remaining. Because the rear end on these are are fixed beam type I'm guessing the axle stubs may be slightly bent (the car itself has done 280,000k's) and when I lowered it the axles are now not quite right. Does this make sense? I know lowering itself doesn't cause problems with these fixed beam type rear ends and can only point my finger at the axle stubs or the beam itself. I know its possible my shimming to align the rear end, so does anybody know of an expert around the Newcastle/Hunter Valley area who can help with this issue? Alternatively has anybody solved a problem like this themselves? Thanks in advance Matt
