Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Hello from Melbourne.. new 90 TSI... And wheels?

First time VW owners here - just put it an order for a 90 TSI pacific blue manual, so although "basic" I'm pretty excited to replace my ageing Mazda that's falling apart (I literally is) with a brand new car

My main headache at the moment is if I do anything about the steel wheels on it... Wish it came with alloys for the price. I kinda like the look of the VW blades...some nice pics in the golf brochure of one with those wheels but I'm wondering if they have used photoshop to lower the car .. Hmm decisions!!!

Any other recommendations on an upgrade to the stock 90 tsi steelies?

Hi, congrats on the car! I also upgraded an old Mazda with a Pacific blue tsi, but dsg I didn't like the steel wheels either, and chose to upgrade at purchase to 15" Aspen alloys. Was something like just under 1k back in April.
Looking back, I could've just purchased a Comfortline, but knew there were just too many features that I would prob never use lol. But it's a great little car. Good luck with your search for wheels!

      Wow, very similar story!

My poor Mazda is going to go heaven me thinks... $250 for the trade in haha. It did have >250,000 kms on the clock, so has had a good run!

Yeah I checked out the 15" Aspen too.. they were around $990 to upgrade.
I was thinking that if I was going to spend that may as well spend a bit more and get 17" or 18" which I'd prefer.
Probably going to be quite a bit more haha

Also had same dilemma with going to a comfortline, however with the price I got the TSI, it was a $7K jump up to comfortline.
I was going to be pushing the budget and couldn't justify the additional costs for a few extra bells and whistles.
Sure - it would be nice... but for me, not $7K nice!

Just got told my car is ready next Tues... SWEEET.
Was expecting it in two weeks

Keep an eye on the forum classifieds, gumtree & eBay. A set of alloys will come up. You'll pay between $150-$400 depending on how desperate you are.
