Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • TAS NewBee rant.

Good day to you. After endless searching a site that has more than one refrence to Australia (POM's gear is everywhere). I have a stock and emaculate 1997 2.0 swb pet man 7da which will get put over the pits for work. I guess that's all that matters !!. Thanks.

Hi Bill Lee welcome! Are you from the north or south of the state?

South. Where its coolest, mostest. The hills are alive here with mainly, hills. My 2.0 is being considered for an upgrade to 2.5 if I can find one. Battle up AND down, but then I've just moved here so they're new hills, new hill, new hill.etc. Another great thing is finding parts, A wrecker has 1 vehical near, the state might scrounge 2, so I guess its new parts only - or order from t4 mad UK people (and found it cheaper on small items) going to need it for those steep ones.
Better still I now don't have to talk to people in another country...wheeew. Scanned heaps of posts before joining which makes a difference.
      Great.

Hi mate hope all is going well with your van ! I'm a noob And I have a 97 2.0l man swb same as yours by the sounds of it ! I'm having a lot of troubles trying to find any info on the 2l aac engines !! My main problem to start with is the previous owner before me has done alot of dodgy work to the whole car but main prob at min is the alternator I believe is from a different model and engine and was wondering if it's not too much trouble if you could please post some more pics of your engine and the alternator/mount and the belt pattern ?? Thanks Tim

          Hey Tim.
There are many alternator configurations for these things, I have found. You can even get them, or could get them, with 2 alternators.
My alternator sits under the AC compressor. I too have a 97 2.0 l AAC.
