  • NSW Newbie interested in track orientated cars.....

    Hi,

I'm a genuine old fart, but not quite the grey nomad type! Absolutely obsessed with Motorsports, particularly Ricciardo and Ambrose doing it over there. Anyways, joined youse because I have sold my IPRA Rx7 back in April and now doing research to find my next IPRA build. Looking at cars that meet the IPRA rules when I can accross the Red Devil. Now that has me thinking......

What about a Golf R, AWD and turbo, could be worth a look. Ive seen little starlet GT AWD smoking the field in IPRA. Might be able to give him a run for his money! Only issue could be it weight, might struggle to get it low enough to be competitive. Grunt shouldn't be an issue even with a restrictor.

Hi, thx for the reply. However, the Starlet is FWD Life model (not 4wd) and incredibly light, less than 1000 kg's. Also Dave had a limitlessness budget when building and developing the car, so it's like comparing a F1 Ferrari to the F1 Marussia teams. Because of the 36mm restrictor, no car can make more than about 350hp, not matter how much $$$ you've got. The R is a great car however it's a porker, over weight and with only 350hp and about 550 ft/ilbs of torque (when using the 36mm restrictor) it would get flogged and still cost a fortune to build then develop. Similar cars like WRX's and EVO's with $100k plus builds cant beat the Starlet!!!!

Plus I don't have that budget, so it will be a budget sort of build using my 20+ years of building & racing cars to shorten the development path.........
