Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW NEW MEMBER - Buying first VW Golf

Hello VWWatercoolers, I have ridden motorbikes all my life and have decided to buy my first VW GOLF and just need a bit of guidance for what models to look out for and which to keep away from.

I am currently on my RED P plate so I do have a restriction, for power to weight ration in NSW (in other words I can get everything but the GTI)

I am currently looking at the MK6 1.4 TSI. I am not looking for speed/power as such but rather aesthetics (stance nation), I have my bikes for speed so ideally my plan is to lower the car on some nice rims and drive slow.

Are there any common issues others have come across, anything I need to know before making purchase?

    Thank you

    Welcome to VWW.

Nothing major to look out for at all, a couple of minor niggles reported but check out the Mk7 section for details. In particular you can check out the wheel thread, a number of 'stanced' TSIs floating around there ex Europe.
