Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Newbies report

Hi everyone, I am Silas from mel. Bought a Golf Mk5 2 months ago. It only comes with one key so I want to get a back up one as well. Did a lot of research, genuine keys doesn't come in cheap, around 600-700 from dealership. What a ripoff!! So i decide to source one from the mighty internet. Got one from Alibaba for $30 with the same code , 753G and 48chip. According to 20+ buyers around the world, this key worked well. Got it on Monday, have the HAA blade cut buy a local locksmith and it can open the doors fine. Turn on the engine it says Immoboliser active! which is fair enough as I have not get it coded.

I took the key to VW dealer today, they happy to try to code it. After a good hour and half, the guy came out saying its not working. However the remote control works ok, but when turn on ignition, it says "engine fault garage" then dies out. Remember it used to say "Immoboliser active" before the attempt.

What Does it mean by engine fault garage? Was the coding half way completed? What should I do>??
