Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First time VW buyer - Golf GTI

    Hi,

    posting as required .

Just bought my first VW - a Golf GTI. Hoping to have it in my hot little hands in the next couple of weeks .

I've ordered a White manual with Leather (Retro-fit, not a factory leather install)

Is it only the seats in the GTI that get leather or aspects of door trim etc?

Car was a few $k more than I initially wanted to spend but with the Focus ST update not arriving until mid 2015 and concerns over practicality in the Megane RS 265 (boot space :/) the GTI was the best 'fit' for me.

    A nice upgrade from my Mazda 3 SP23 .

I'm in Brisbane and will be keen to get involved in any car club activities as well.

Mate welcome! The Mk7 GTI is one fun car to drive, way more exciting than the boring blue oval ford.

haha thanks . If the new focus ST was hitting Australia soon I'd have had a tougher decision to make but the current one doesn't match the GTI I think.

I've been lurking on this forum for months and found a heap of great info for mods, detailing etc that carries over to any car I own ... now I can look forward to playing with my GTI I expect to have a lot more to read!

I'm getting the car with dealer fitted tint - Perfexion (carbon?) reflective tint. It's non metalized and the darkest legal tint for QLD. Haven't heard much about it but I hope they are good at fitting tint . I think it should set the black inset on the wheels off really nicely on a white car .

My first step will be to get the paint checked out, corrected if needed and then I'm having Ceramic Pro 9H applied. Enjoying your car as a hobby is a slippery slope financially :/ !!

Right on the money there, slippery slope financially alright, kind of like crashing and burning haha.

            Which dealer mate?
