Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello!! from brizzy need some help

hey guys my name is billy.. I'm new to the whole vdub scene.
im in the process of doing a 2.0 tfsi swap (dsg) on my mk5 jetta (previously 2.0 fsi)
i bought a wrecked turbo jetta with the engine running perfectly and swapped "everything" over.
thats wiring, suspension, engine and gearbox and all the other stuff from the tfsi wreck
reason I'm doing it was because there was oil getting into my cooling system which resulted in the car overheating.
now I'm at the point where everything is in, immobiliser is working fine, fuel pump is working, the car is turning over
but just won't start. i smell fuel after attempting to start it.. I'm stuck. i have a little super-vag computer and its throwing a couple of error codes. speed sensors ect. the only one that alarms me a bit is the cylinder 3 knock sensor. could that be
the reason its not starting ? i just figured if it worked in the car before why is it not working now ?
my cluster tells me "service now" I'm really stuck at this point. This is my first vw I've ever owned first one I've worked on
I've worked on many jap cars and only owned only jap cars before. i recently bought an e30 convertible (big plans) and this as my jetta as my daily
sorry for my introduction being off topic but this is how i ended up on this site
would really appreciate it if someone would shed some light on what i should be looking for ?
nice to meet you all if anyone needs any jetta parts just let me know
    thanks billy

What are the actual fault codes you have? A crank position sensor will stop it running.

So you've swooped engine ecu from turbo dash cluster and key as these are all immobilizer components. If you've used the loom that came with the Turbo engine you shouldn't have an issues. Interested to see how you go where you located.

Look into the crank sensor code first mate..

Def check codes, save and erase and recheck. If its getting fuel and no spark wont be crank sensor. They will throw crank sensor codes if the engine cranks too long therefore the crank sensor not at fault in that case but if its throwing cranks sensor code with minimal cranking def look into that. . So start from scratch. That's no mean feat swapping it all over and by the sounds you might just have left some off hopefully.
