Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1995 Caravelle Electrical issue? - Greetings all!

    Hi All,

I'd like to introduce myself and say that this is a fantastic forum! I recently acquired a 2nd hand 1995 Caravelle - 2.5 petrol engine with the ACU engine. I did something silly today on it which I might regret - my reverse light switch went faulty and decided to install a manual switch in the mean time as I await a replacement. In the process, I caused a short circuit - bang, bang, pop pop I immediately disconnected the battery. I checked all the fuses and they seemed ok. I tried starting the car and it would not start. I disconnected and reconnected the battery and it fired up immediately . However, I've noticed that the Rev counter is not working. I've also noticed that the engine is now idling a little rough and seems to be running rich. Does the Rev counter get its signal from the Hall sender? Could I have blown the Hall sender?

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

    Cheers!
    Steve.
