Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi all,

I just bought a Golf 1999 MK4 and only received 1 valet key.

I assume that these cars come with a remote control fob key.

Just wondering what part number is the Fob key so I could start researching on Fleabay and how to program/match the key.

    Any help is appreciated.

Hey mate welcome to thw forum! As for the keyless entry it depends what model mk4 golf and wether it came out with that option. My mk4 1.6 doesnt have keyless but im wrecking a gti that does. Can either do a diy with a gti ccm or go aftermarket.

Hello. Thanks for welcoming me and for the reply.

I don't know what model it is but it has got a 1.8 2.0v on the engine.

I have no manual or log books with the car, therefore I do not have any idea.

How can I tell physically if it has the keyless option? You mentioned your are wrecking one that has. Where is this located.

Please I am so ignorant at this time. I've never owed a VW before.

      Thanks.

1.8 20v turbo? That would be a gti, the ccm is located under the steering wheel in the dash, should have two plugs if it is centrel locking capable. Otherwise ring up volkswagen with your vin number and they could tell you too.

No it is not a turbo and is not a GTi. I wish it was

It has central locking with power windows as well.
