Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie VW Beetle Emerald Vic

    Hey All,

Just picked up a 2001 VW Beetle for my partner, it's a clean car has some 18" wheels, lowered, and low k's but needs a bit of a detail.
Looking for a good mechanic if any one can recommend someone, for a service and mechanical check over.
But overall it's nice car and she loves it already.

Had the Beetle serviced, still waiting on the service books from the previous owner........... thought we could be waiting for ever, so best to get it looked at now. Treated it as if it had had nothing done or the bare minimum, and am glad we did.
Cambelt hadn't been done and the water pump either, the W/Pump had 1/4 of it's impeller wheel missing !!!! Tried flushing it out but no luck in finding the bits. Everything else seemed fine I've been told, so am pretty happy.
The only other major problem was the sunroof drains were totally blocked causing it to flood the car, hence the damp and mouldy smell. Will be able to get a full detail now its all unblocked and draining.
