Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Potential New Owner of a MkV!

    Hello everyone!

I've been stalking this forum in the recent months in a mission to get my first Golf (also to be my first car) and I've ran into a sale recently that I have limited of time to check on which is a 2005 MkV Comfortline.

I think the price is decent (talked to the owner of the phone - will accept lowest of $9,000). However I am sort of concerned with the low KMs and them being the 2nd owner, previously purchased from a dealership. 61,000KM and second owner of 2005 MkV - is this normal?

The owner also said to me that they are leaving in 10 days to go overseas... Hence the limited time I have to check this offer out...

Would be grateful if I could hear some opinions on this

    Welcome to the forum.
There have been some scammers around in recent times. Just don't fall for transferring money etc until you have met the person and seen the car.
Don't make a deposit until you are happy with it either, test drive if it looks OK make an offer, sign a simple contract stating your terms (you may want an NRMA inspection etc) do your searches for title etc then place a deposit, wait for the inspections (if any) do be done. If you are then happy with the inspection, do the paperwork for RTA, swap keys for cash and drive home.
    Enjoy your Golf.
    MK4 GTI - Sold
    MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
    MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

Thanks for the response. I'm waiting for a carfacts report to come in at the moment. Have arranged to meet this saturday morning. I have asked if an NRMA inspection is fine, they have said yes. I would assume the NRMA inspection would pick up or at least show some sign if the mileage didn't seem right?
