  • SA New Jetta TFSI owner

Hey guys, just picked up a low km MY08 Jetta 2.0 TFSI in reflex silver last week, thought i'd register. Came from a modified Ralliart Colt, which was fun but needed a 'family' car due to a new addition to the family.

Got referred here by thezoneR32 (Paul) who I've known for a few years (and also used to work with him)

Hoping to get some useful info outta this forum, and 'maybe' pick up some performance parts along the way (if anyone has a APR carbonio intake for sale, let me know )

    Cheers

    Frank

Also, there seems to be a lot of conflicting info regarding when the timing belt should be changed on these cars....can anyone clarify this for me with some certainty?

Mine's done 62,000 (December 2007 build date), log books say that the DSG filter has been replaced at 57k (had 'haldex' crossed out, DSG written there and the box ticked/stamped by the service dealer) so I assume this is the all important DSG 60K service done....Now that the car is between 6 and 7 years old, I assume I would have to replace the timing belt?

The manuals are a little vague and seem to just be a blanket coverage on Mk5 vehicles, nothing specific to the TFSI engine - says 120,000km with no mention of year intervals - but I have read anything from 5 years to 7-8 years for replacement.

One more thing: I'm aware that there was a recall by VAG Aust a while back (2009) for the mechatronic unit in the DSG, having a look on a government recall website there is a PDF list which shows 37E8 Campaign (outstanding) VIN numbers, which I assume is a list of those remaining vehicles sold in AUS which have not been taken back to VW to be fixed - my VIN isn't on the list, so can I assume that this issue has been rectified?

    Any help/insight appreciated

      Hi and welcome.

Regards the DSG warranty I'd speak to the local dealer service centre to find out if you car is caught up in the recall.

Hope to see you out at some of our events if you can make it. I know new additions to the family can make this more difficult.

Welcome fellow Adelaidian, what was the manufacture date of your vehicle it should be inside the door pillar on the front passager side but I assume MY08 is still the TFSI engine with BWA code. I believe the timing belt is 105,000klm or 7 years I changed mine in January at 107,000 klms and also replaced the water pump because for the extra money and being a bitch of a job to get at it was worth it even though my water pump was still in good condition. The DSG needs to be serviced every 60,000klm or 4 years so I assume that happened at 57,000klm. The only thing to watch on the Jetta is the PCV which often fail but more so if the vehicle is tunned.
