  • VIC Mk4 GTI intro :)

    hi guys,

don't really know why i hadn't signed up earlier. I've owned my 2001 Mk4 GTI for over a year now. It's had it's fair share of problems but most of them are sorted as of now. When i bought the car, it had 116,000km's and the previous owner had already done quite a bit of work to it. Over the past year i have done the same and the best is yet to come. As of now i have bought a k04-022. But before i start with that, i'll have to put in the sachs vr6 clutch kit in i haven't yet purchased .

anyway, here's a few pics and the mod list thus far:

    1. Carbonio Carbon Fibre Engine Cover
    2. Carbonio Induction Kit
    3. Forge Motorsport Front Mount Intercooler
    4. Forge Motorsport Diverter Valve
    5. APR Carbon Fibre Front Strut Brace
    6. APR ECU Upgrade (stage 2)
    7. APR 2.5” Full Exhaust System – Turbo back
    8. Newsouth Indigo Boost Gauge and Pod
    9. Eibach Sport Springs – Pro Kit (30mm drop)
    10. Kamei Headlight Eyebrows
    11. Genuine VW Remote Central Locking
    12. Genuine VW R Line Gear Knob/Gaiter
    13. Genuine VW R Line Pedal Set
    14. Genuine VW Upper Rear Spoiler
    15. Lester Autotuning Rear Boot Lid Panel
    16. pioneer double din touch screen head unit (biggest regret, wish i went alpine)
    17. Greddy Full Auto Turbo Timer
    18. 18x9+35 Work xd9's
    19. Viper 2-Way Alarm System
    20. Tinted Windows
    21. Fog lights

plans for the future are.. obviously the k04...
    VR6 MAF
    S3 injectors
    Custom code phase 3 tune.
    KW V2 coilovers
    Sachs VR6 clutch kit + G60 flywheel
    2.0 coil packs
    F/R neuspeed sway bars

^realistic plans for now.. im sure more will pop up in the future.

hope to speak to you all in the various threads, thanks

il be doing rods down the track dubster, but the k04 is pretty safe on stock internals. as long as i don't go crazy with the boost.

                definitely David when is it?

Welcome to the forum buddy! Nice choice of car too! A few people have windowed their block on k04s, watch the early boost spikes! Oh and don't bother with the 2.0 coils, waste of money. Nice wheels btw!

yeah ive been a little worried about the spikes, i haven't really found any prevention methods/safety precautions. I'll definitely do more research.

the 2.0 coils are more so if mine are to go. They're cheap enough.

The best prevention is a good tune that takes into account the stock block, the best precaution is to do rods haha. The 2.0 coils take a lot of work to get running on the agu, as we have a different ignition system to just about all other transverse 1.8ts. The 3-wire bolt down coils are actually quite good and very reliable, it's the icm in the airbox you need to worry about. Keep it cool with good airflow or a massive heat sink and you should be okay. Keen to see where this thing heads, I've driven Gavin's chipped s3 and it is a lot of fun, you might need a diff though.

Appreciate the info lito rods are definitely being done sooner rather than later. Maybe the 2.0 coils can be given a miss. I'm fairly set on this custom code stage 3, heard nothing but good things about it.
