Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Howdy from WA!

Just making the obligatory hellos, just bought a deep blue 2011 B7 Passat V6 FSI Highline 4Motion wagon (helluva mouthful) last week. Must say I'm anxiously waiting, car was in Canberra and now slowly making its way to me in Perth, although its currently heading the wrong way and is now actually in Sydney! Anyways, got about 12 days more to wait and it should be here. Car only has 33,000kms and is pretty well perfect apart from the tyres which need replacing so have ordered Michelin Pilot Super Sports all round. Has the 3.6 motor and adaptive chassis control, I'm excited...

    welcome aboard!

    did you buy privately?

and if so how are you arranging WA registration? I assume you have movement permits all sorted.

I recently purchased a Golf GTI ex Sydney which is sitting in my driveway now and will need to get it registered before I can actually drive it.

also, where di you get your tyres?

I got 4 newbies from www.tirerack.com and saved an absolute bundle

Yes I bought privately, 3rd time I've bought a car from east. As to the permits I just ring up for them when I can see on the CEVA tracking that the car has landed in Perth. Ring CEVA confirm car is at depot. Ring police, get permits (I'll need 3 movement permits this time). Its quicker/cheaper picking the car up at the CEVA depot than waiting for it to be delivered, you can wait up to 3 days for them to deliver. Then take car to get new tyres fitted, and then take car for registration.
I've bought 4 times from tirerack before. This time I went with www.tyresales.com.au With the dollar the way it is after conversion on the day, shipping, add in fitting etc, tirerack only worked out $75 cheaper than tyresales. I cant be bothered going to the bank doing wire transfers etc to save $75. If tirerack did Paypal they probably would have got my business again. I think if you're putting bigger/wider tyres on tirerack are always going to be cheaper. I had 19" 285's on my M3, and the price difference here was huge. Once those sizes start to come down, there are dealers here in Aus who are getting competitive. Good thing I say. I only have 235/40 R18 on the Passat.

Its worth the few extra days of waiting/work when buying ex east, as you get about 10 times the range to choose from.

I got the goodyear asymmetric 2s and best price I could get locally was around $650 ea, but tirerack was around $280 ea delivered, plus $80 for local F&B.

Yep, cant remember the last time I saw the car I was looking for in WA, there's only 6 nationwide for sale now as it is. As to the tyres that's a damn good saving. The Pilots I bought were on special locally so this time amazingly it just didn't add up to get them OS. I remember when I bought 19" Pilots for the M3 they were $840 each locally, got a set of 4 for just under $1600 delivered from tirerack

Couple of pics of the car now its here and had a good clean. Have fitted new VLed drl's and turn bulbs to the front, now need to sort out some for the rear turns and reverse bulbs because of the different fitting
