Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New sponsor - NewBuy

    Hi all

We will be joining the forum as a sponsor in the next few days (once our banner artwork is finalised) and I thought I would introduce ourselves in the meantime.
Some friends and I have started a website that explores a new way for people to buy a new car. In a nutshell buyers specify the exact model they want and the price they are willing to pay. We then push that offer out to all dealers and try to get one to accept it.
We have built the site and are now looking to invite our first few users prior to a public launch. There is no charge to buyers, we will instead charge dealers for a successful transaction.
You can learn more at Home - NewBuy.
    Thanks
    James

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I've sold a car to a buyer through a similar service in the past and the transaction was very painless.

Are you specialising in any particular brands? i.e. do you have good contacts within the VW dealer network in particular?

Interested to hear what you can do for the forum members and what pricing/discounts you are able to achieve for your customers.

      Thanks for the welcome.
We've decided to start with VW as there are not too many dealers and there is considerable variation in prices achieved. I personally have owned a GTI V before so am familiar with this site.
I might just take a moment to try and explain how NewBuy works using an example.
Say you want to buy a new GTI manual. Price is about $46,000 depending on your location.
You would use NewBuy to put out an offer of perhaps $40,000. We would then push that out to every VW dealer and let them know we have a committed buyer at $40,000. You must be committed and we will take your credit card details through Paypal to prove that committment.
You can leave that offer out there as long as you like. If no dealer takes it then you have the option of increasing your offer. There is pressure on the dealer because if they don't accept the offer another dealer might.
Say you go to $41,000 and a dealer accepts your offer. NewBuy immediately takes a $500 deposit from you as the deposit on your new car. The deal is done.
You can read more details on our website, but basically if the deal falls through for some reason we will refund your deposit.
      Hope that makes sense.
      Cheers
      James
