  • WA Newbie Scirocco R

    Hi everyone

I have been following the forum for a few months now.

A while back i went to a Nissan dealership as they had a second hand toyota 86 manual in stock. I wanted to test drive it because previously i had only driven an automatic one. As i arrived at the dealership there was a blue Scirocco on display at the front. It looked mint! I thought its a perfect opportunity to test drive the Scirocco while im at it.

So i took the Scirocco out first. It totally blew my mind.. It was the first time i had tried DSG. The car handled so well and felt so solid. It was bloody quick too! Then i took the 86 for a spin. Even though i had previously driven an auto 86 and loved it, after driving the Scirocco, the 86 felt very ordinary. The Scirroco was nearly 20k more but i just couldnt get it out of my head. I have always been into Japanese cars and after owning my fair share of them i thought it might be time for something European.

At the time there was no way in the world that i was spending that much on a car. I didnt buy either of them. I set my budget at the time to around 30k. I researched a lot. I ummed and arrr'd about getting a golf 6 DSG second hand for a more reasonable price. For months i couldnt find a second hand GTI that i liked which represented good value and all the options / history that i was looking for unless of course I paid Scirocco money.

So i started looking over East (im in WA) for second hand Scirocco's. I found cars are often cheaper from VIC or NSW and had previously bought a car over from VIC. So anyway I was very close to pulling the trigger on a 2012 Candy white Scirocco with very low km (around the 10k mark). I had the flights picked out and was planning to drive it back to Perth on Australia day long weekend. Then i suddenly realised that an Indium Grey ex-demo that I saw advertised locally in Perth and had been drooling over was advertised as "drive away" price, which worked out to around the same as the white one when stamp duty, fuel cost, flights, accommodation, registration etc etc etc was taken into account. The price of the white one was only marginally lower then the ex-demo with 1800KM on the clock!

So to cut a VERY long story short. Im now the proud new owner of a 2013 Indium Grey Scirocco. Yes it cost a lot more then 30k. But if i was spending 40k + on a GTI anyway, why not buy the car that inspired me in the first place? Sorry about the long winded explanation! So far after nearly one month of ownership i couldnt be more happy. The car is definitely a keeper. Heres a pic of my beast . Thanks for reading.
