Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi All,

I've recently purchased a 2009 Tiguan TDI and i found this site when i was googling ways of installing & integrating Bluetooth. I'm hoping to find some answers here. Though most of the threads i've found are stupidly long, with out of date info (that's not the forums fault, its just because i bought a car that's 5 years old and i'm playing catch-up)
So i have a lot of reading to do...

    Cheers

    Welcome to the forum!

Hope you're enjoying your new car.

Bluetooth units can be a bit of a minefield. If you just want it to work with a stock 2009 Tig, then you'll most likely have a red MFD and need to get a unit that works with that display.

Suggest trying something like this:FIS - LINK - Can Box Converter for Red Dot Matrix FIS and New BT Modules

Just work out what features you want (audio streaming, phone book access, etc) and how you want to operate it (steering wheel controls or via stereo head unit RCD510/RNS510) and go from there.

Thanks for the reply. I do indeed have the Red MFD. I also have the RCD510 installed with the Dyn Audio sound.
My wishlist for the Bluetooth is:
      1) to be able to stream music form my phone,
      2) Answer/end calls from the phone button on the steering wheel, and
      3) if possible, have the caller id/name show on the MFD or RCD510 of the incoming call. (i don't car about making outbound calls)

That kits looks like it might do what i want. Thanks for the tip.

My main concern at the moment is how to install the mic? I don't like the idea of having to pull out the trim up the A-pillar where the airbag is.

That kit will do audio streaming but doesn't look like it has phone book functionality (Phone Book Access Protocol - PBAP). It does however have a little box to make it compatible with the older red MFD/steering wheel controls.

If you got the unit without the little converter you could run everything through the RCD510 (accept/receive calls) but the button on the steering wheel wouldn't work and you wouldn't get a phone menu in the MFD ( may make synching phones harder and limit access to some functions/features). Some people have done this and live with it.

I've pulled the trims and run the cable through into the overhead compartment. You only have to lift the trims enough to poke the cable in. I think I ran a wire to pull it across the roof liner. It was a couple of years ago now though so trying to remember.

Car systems are a good seller and quite a few people have bought from this online store (myself included).
