Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC So I just bought my first VW Golf GTI

    Hi all,
Just bought a second hand run-about for me and my wife, and wow I'm impressed!
2006 Silver GTI, 6 Speed Manual, sunroof and 18" factory optioned rims.
Really enjoying the little pocket rocket.
Got something with good service history and 79k's so not too bad for age, no rattles or serious issues.
I really love driving this thing.
Only thing I'm keen on is upgrading the head unit - would really love an android option, but will go the VW GPS model if I have to.
Also need the driver's seat looked at as there is a bit of wear in the corner near the door, will make a few calls.
    Hi to you all!
    Cheddo.

        Congrats on the purchase.

As for the head unit you could look at the Pioneer App Radio units as they support Android and iOS. I have an AVH-X8550BT and it's awesome. You'll need about $300 for mounting kits and adaptors on top of the purchase price of the actual head unit.

Pioneer AUS have stopped importing the pure App Radios (units with an FM/AM receiver and reliance on the phone for everything else) so if you want that rather than the additional functionality in the AVH units (or AVIC units that Pioneer built-in Nav) you will need to import one through eBay or similar.

        Welcome to the forum.
