  • QLD After a 20 year hiatus, my VW fever has fired up again...

    Hi all,

Back in my youth I was a MkI Golf fan, owing three cars at any time (these ranged from stock standard to performance). Now, in my 40's...the bug is back.

I am hoping to learn a thing or two about modern VW Golfs from this forum.

What is the best model to purchase and upgrade into a power plant?
Who are the best modifiers of VW motors around the country?

I am in no rush. As desperate as I am to pick up an old MkII, I don't think it is right to destroy a classic through my desire to speed. If I do get one of these, it would be a show car.

(Now it looks like I am buying two!!)

Anyway, hope to get advice through the forum, meet like minded people and just have fun.

Are you after a new model i.e. mk 6/7 golf or just something cheap and fun to tinker with?
Any particual preferences such as fwd, number of doors etc?

I got my Tiguan as it provided the advantage of AWD and a GTI spec engine for less than the Current model Golf GTI.

Also, feel free to tag along to some of our events to get an idea for what is currently being driven/modified.

After much debating I have committed to purchasing a classic 87 Golf GTI import (2 door of course). Deposit has been paid and picking it up on the long weekend. Now to do a general tidy up of the vehicle, have a quality vw mechanic overhaul motor and start having fun in a club!!
