Hello from the new owner of a mk4 GTI.
I picked up my new ride a couple of months back, its a 2004 gti, absolutely bog stock car.
In the past i've owned a couple of quick cars including a subaru outback converted to twin turbo, a bmw e30 running a 300kw 2.0L engine, and an old corolla with a 1.6L 20V screamer conversion.
I bought the golf because I really needed a 'sensible' daily driver (my subaru spent more time in pieces in the garage than on the road) for my job and I like the shape of the mk4's. In stock form, the car is pretty doughy and really not all that quick, but it is extremely comfortable to drive and is remarkably good on fuel.
My plans for the car is to leave the engine more or less stock, and focus on its handling to make the car quicker.
Tim
